A limited number of people are allowed on the protected national island at once so the natural beauty is seemingly unaltered by human hands.

I would like to thank each and every one of my readers out there, 50% percent of the reason I post is because you take the time to read. I hope that everyone has a happy and loving holiday. I'm pretty blessed to be surrounded by the people I love during this time of year and I don't take that for granted because I know that there are many of you who aren't. Today I saw so many homeless people sleeping in a parking lot across from the Fed-ex where my "perfect present" was being held. It made my heart hurt something awful. I'm going to make it a goal to make a less fortunate persons day today and I think you should too.

Although there are many design elements in this dress I feel that they compliment rather then distract from the other. I quite like the back but do not have an adequate shot of it, sorry. So I've gone a tiny bit crazy with all of these. I think I have about ten pieces now including a bracelet and a necklace. In the video below I skipped a very important step; you have to wrap the wire around your jems and onto a base, or create your own base before you can start to solder. Otherwise none of this will work. The solder will not adhere to just plain rock - at least not from my experience. That being said, enjoy the video and let me know if you have any questions or if I've missed anything.

amethyst ring: my design

This is the ring from my previous post, as I stated before it is of my own design. For a while I couldn't decide whether I thought it was ugly-scary or scary-beautiful. With the help of Joe's father (teaching me how to use a soldering iron) I constructed it in about thirty minutes on Thanksgiving night. If you guys would like, I'll post a tutorial on how you can make your very own. It is actually super easy to do if you can get your hands on the right materials; which in my opinion are very obtainable.

Designed this dress about a year ago. Found it in the closet today and am so glad to have an excuse to wear it. Now that its fall, I don't look too much like a fool in a full leather ensemble, in Atlanta no less. The ring is my own design as well, I bought the amethysts a while back from a rock and mineral show and used a soldering iron to station it onto an existing metal ring base. I know these photos don't do it justice so I'll take more shots of the ring alone later. Happy Thanksgiving!

A lot has happened in the last week - sorry for the lack of post guys... but, I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE NEW COLLECTION! am i excited enough for you, hehe?

I designed this jacket in the process of draping the samples. I figured that the weather is changing and soon the leaves will have all fallen from the trees and therefore, I might need a new jacket to cope with the cold. I haven't even finish putting in the lining, I've been too busy wearing it.

The hair story is that I am going natural, so i decided to get extensions to help with the in-between period.

Here is the finished product, the last image is a before shot. I must admit that the intended color was red, but as I winged it (didn't closely follow directions) it turned out to be a bright orange hue instead. Plus it's not exactly an ombre effect, is it? Kinda resembles orange smoke or clouds or something. Yet, I think I like it.

I will show you the results soon, I just haven't had the time to go outside for sun-filled photos. Or should I say the BF hasn't. DIY: how to make knit pants from boyfriend sweater

Inspired by the comfyness of my Ohne Titel tights, I discovered another way to reconstruct an over-sized sweater to the horror of my BF. For this one you will need another one of your boyfriend's over-sized sweaters with long arms (or a thrifted sweater), a pair of scissors and a hand needle or sewing machine. I used a serger.

cut from 1"1/2 inch under the armhole diagonally towards the center front of the neckline. Stop 1/2 an inch from the sweater's neck binding. note: [it's easiest to cut front and back at once; when you are done there should be a visible upside-down "V" shape].
sew center front (front diagonal that you just cute) to center front and center back (back diagonal that you just cut) to center back in one continuous stitch.
the images (I think) illustrates it very well if my directions are bad.

woop there it is! you now have knit pants.

Joe was a little hesitant to give up more sweaters this time, but i think he liked the results.

“Natural Hair is Very Strong”

This is a misconception. It may look or even feel rough and tough, but it isn’t. Natural hair is actually fragile and has to be handled with much care. Why? Because the strands curl and bend so much that each curl is a possible breaking point because the bend in the strand weakens the shaft. In fact, many people assume people with natural hair have thick and strong hair strands when in fact they can have fine and wiry strands which can break easily.

“Natural Hair Can’t Be Combed.”

Naturally curly/kinky hair is not meant to be combed and styled like straight hair. Curly/kinky hair requires a whole new mind set in styling and you can’t work with kinky hair the way you do with relaxed hair. I can not and will not attempt to get a comb through my hair dry — only while it’s soaking wet with conditioner.

“Products are Only Made For Black or White Hair”

Lets face it, companies want to make a profit. Everyone knows that black women spend more on hair care than any other demographic so guess what — it’s all about the green. If you’re concerned about spending your money with black owned companies, realize that many companies such as “African Pride” are no longer black owned. Products may be geared towards a demographic (and have pictures of Africa and black women everywhere), but the owners don’t discriminate. Plus, there are many products that work well for a variety of ethnicities and hair textures.

“Natural Hair is Only for the Political ‘Soul Sistas’”

This statement is not necessarily true. Maybe in the late 60s and 70s, but not now. Many women are simply fed up with conforming to a BS beauty standard, tired of the same 6 week routine, tired of running from rain, humidity and water parks, tired of damage, etc. There is real information out there on caring for and dealing with natural hair that really wasn’t out there before, and women are doing research on their own instead of depending on what a stylist tells them.

“Petroleum and Mineral Oil are Good for Natural Hair — They’re in all the Black Hair Products!”

Products marketed for Black women usually contain petroleum and mineral oil for two reasons: they give our hair an artifical shine and there are cheap products to make and sell. Petroleum and mineral oil clog the pores on your scalp and coat the strand, making hair much more prone to damage and breakage in the long run. If you are using an expensive product and one of these items are near the top of the ingredient list, sorry to say but you’re most likely wasting money.**

**Editor’s Note: Although Mineral Oil and Petroleum based products are not good as moisturizers, they have proven to be effective sealants. Click here for an article on the benefits of mineral oil

“Natural Hair Can’t Grow Long”

Think about when you relaxed, how many times you had to get a touch up. Every 6-8 weeks or so? That is all new hair that has grown out of your scalp. Keeping the strands on your head is the goal for hair growth. Also, the curlier the hair the more shrinkage you will have. Therefore it will appear that it’s not growing at the same rate as someone with straight or wavy hair. Black women’s highly textured hair does tend to be more fragile than non-black women’s hair, often due to our curl pattern (every point along the hair strand that coils is very fragile and prone to breakage.)

The longer the hair is, the more care it needs. So oil those ends, give yourself deep conditioning treatments, wear protective styles, eat right, drink water and exercise to grow and retain the hair. Black hair does grow. I believe the main reason black women don’t see this growth is because we damage our hair to the point that it’s constantly breaking off. You just have to be gentle with it and keep it clean.

Also, when natural hair is being subjected to blow dryers, flat-irons/curling irons, harsh hair color and/or chemicals, it may suffer, break off and will not *appear* to be growing.

“Natural Hair is Difficult and Unmanageable”

True, it can be difficult if you don’t have the proper knowledge. But you also have to define manageability for yourself. Sure it does take time to detangle, get the knots out and do treatments, but by carefully caring for your hair, you can reap a full healthy head of hair. In my experience, I enjoy doing and taking care of my hair. Also keep in mind that listening to your hair instead of fighting it will make things go a lot smoother.

“Relaxers Promote Growth and Make Hair More Manageable”

Again, you have to define manageability for yourself, but relaxers have nothing to do with hair growth. The increased length of relaxed hair (as compared to natural) has more to do with the lack of shrinkage. A relaxed and natural woman might have the same length hair, with the relaxed hair falling to the shoulder and natural hair coming to the ear. But if the curl pattern is stretched out, it will touch the shoulders also.

“You Must Apply Grease to the Hair and Scalp”

I remember as a young girl getting my scalp “greased” in the kitchen. True it did not harm me and my hair grew but simply put, it is not necessary. The scalp can produce oil on its own. If you find that your scalp is particularly dry, try light oils like jojoba, sweet almond, coconut or olive. These oils are easily dissolved into the scalp and, if used sparingly, do not leave the hair greasy. Try to avoid putting heavy grease directly on the scalp (see the above statement regarding mineral oil and petroleum). Also keep in mind that since kinky hair has a curly formation, it takes a lot for the scalp’s oils to reach the ends compared to a person with straight hair.

“Trimming Makes Natural Hair Grow.”

Even though trimming will improve the overall health of your hair by getting rid of split ends, it has nothing to do with the hair that grows out of your scalp. By trimming your hair, you are able to hold on to strands that don’t split, so you are able to see length because it’s not breaking and splitting. I had a friend who would hold on to her split, see-through ends in an attempt to grow her hair long. But she had to get a major haircut once a year to get rid of the splits, so each year she had to cut her hair shorter and shorter to make it healthy again. It was a never ending cycle that could have been prevented.

“You Shouldn’t Wash Natural Hair Too Often”

I grew up hearing that you can’t wash too often because our hair is very fragile. Maybe with relaxed hair, but washing is wonderful for natural hair. However, strong shampoos can be drying. If you do use shampoo be sparing with cleaners that contain sodium laurel sulphate. If SLS is too harsh for your strands, try a “conditioner wash”, using conditioner to cleanse your hair instead of shampoo.

“Water Will Dry Out Natural Hair”

Water is the best moisturizer for natural hair so don’t be afraid to apply it! The key to maintaining a moisture balance is RETAINING the water that you do apply to your hair via sealing. Here is an article listing the two steps to effective moisturization]

DIY: fur heels

sorry guys, I did this project at night and didn't realized (until halfway through) that I had no batteries for the flash on my camera. So, I didn't take in-progress or process photos for this one. But it's not hard at all; basically what you do is cut up strips of fur with an xacto-like blade from the back (the skin side) and past them on to your shoes (use heavy duty glue).

I worked so closely with the Alexa and Flora and fell in love with all of the other interns. At the end, I was just as proud and happy to see the collection (finally) go down the runways - as if it were my own brain child.

There will be no more shows in NYC this week and I am on my way back to Atlanta as we speak. In fact by the time this post, I may already be in Atlanta. I had a wonderful time in NY this summer but I am so excited and happy to be returning back to ATL to my loved ones, at least for one more year. There are so many more photos that I have to show you. The most exciting images/post to come is that of the count down to the Ohne Titel show, including the preparations on the night before, hair and makeup, backstage, run-through and finally the runway presentation. All images taken firsthand by yours truly, well except for some of the runway shots because when the show was going on I was too busy helping backstage.

NAHM represents the first and last initials of the designers’ names and also translates to water in Laotian, Nary’s ancestral language. NAHM launched in Fall 2011. It's over now and was a huge success which means after I rest a little and attend a few more shows I will be informing you guys of all the happenings.

FASHION WEEK: kimberly ovitz

I would say that the designer's first runway presentation was a successful one, despite the late start time. The collection, a light minimalistic moody vision of mostly fluid and airy pieces, struck a cord of femininity with me. The line-up included looks from soft tailored jackets and pants ensembles to light-weight knit separates and dresses. A highlight was a layered sensual & innovatively done spaghetti strap tie-up white dress with an asymmetric neckline. The show - (I sensed) was well received by most of the attendees, & I gather this not just because I was eases-dropping but because as each look walked out onto the runway I could see many pleased facial expressions. With the different layers of opacity and body conscious yet wearable styles, I foresee a climb in sales for the Kimberly Ovitz team beyond expectation. My only reservation is that the aesthetic, styling & cuts somewhat evokes feeling of past collections from peer designers such as Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang & Chris Benz. I might be a little delusional in making that assumption and maybe Im even seeing things (it has happened before). Or maybe the designer was just inspired by the work of her peers.

Alexa and Flora the designers behind Ohne Titel, gifted me with this gorgeous body conscious little black dress a few days ago- right before I left for school to wrap up my senior year. The internship was a wonderful learning experience and I will be there for them whenever they need assistance in the feature. Don't worry, I will be back to help out with their fashion show on Monday the 10th, I wouldn't miss it for the world. Especially because the girls are finalist for the Vogue Fashion Fund & I am wishing and hoping to get a glimpse of Anna Wintour. LIFE: hair envy

Im going natural. Im so excited about the freedom that comes with wearing my hair the way it grows out of my scalp. "my hair has held me back from freely enjoying the simple pleasures in life (swimming, dancing in the rain, shower sex, etc.). It kept me always slightly insecure & self-conscious. &, if I was being honest, my chemically processed hair kept me feeling inadequate & slightly miserable throughout most of my life." -my sentiments exactly apricot tea.

When I think about it my hairs upkeep, I see that its a little ridiculous. The solon visits include: perms every three mounts & touch ups every month and a half as well as cutting every visit. The daily upkeep includes: wash, rinse, repeat, blow dry, flat iron every week & style everyday. I've realizing how much of an expensive and time consuming ritual this is...and for what, why have I been taught to hate my hair, to cover it, to fear it, to straighten it the moment it grows from my scalp? Is it to conform what I see portrayed as beautiful in the media, to have "manageable hair". Well, you know what, I can be just as attractive and self confident with my natural hair.

I have cut my hair off once before, (I was nearly bald then) so, I have had the opportunity to experienced my hair's natural state. It was refreshing, and easy, [I mean I could just jump into the shower without a cap at anytime of the day]. I loved it. The problems was that I didn't feel attractive, never mind beautiful. I couldn't deal with the In between period. Transitioning from relaxed to natural hair is not easy at all. When I first did it in collage, guys who were falling at my feet, begging to spend time with me prior to my natural short cut, avoided my eyes after it. Even my current boyfriend told me he preferred my relaxed hair back then.

Watching the movie BAD HAIR with my boyfriend - planted the natural hair seed in my head over half a year ago and that seed has now grown into a full blown flower. Watching that movie opened my eyes to so many things but mainly that the main ingredient in relaxers is sodium hydroxide, thinking about putting chemicals on top of my scalp now and possibly causing brain damage discuses, disturbs and saddens me. So this morning I took the scissors into the rest room with me, and cut off all the relaxed hair from the back of my head. Its a start, when I get back to Atlanta I will pay my hair stylist a visit & this time I will gradually go into natural hair & try my best to keep it that way.

DIY: feather crown

First make sure to have all of your materials. I ran all over the garment district, up and down 38th st in almost ever trim store. It may take some time to find the perfect materials for you.

Materials: pretty feathers of different lengths, a ribbon that goes well with the feathers, glue (preferably a fabric glue), a needle and thread, and some sort of backing for your crown; I used the card board paper that is inside most new baseball caps.

1.) sew the feathers together if they are not already sewn together for you (this make them easier to glue together).
2.) glues the feathers to one another and to the ribbon. let sit and dry a bit.
3.) glue and sew ribbon & sew feathers to cardboard base. let sit and dry a bit.

I started to design this dress about two months ago; a few days before my flight to NYC. Originally it was suppose to be a simple shift dress, but as I started to work on it again I completely let my scissors run wild. I guess I just wanted to push it a bit more. Something a little daring, sensual & feminine. Wa-la, a little black dress is born. One that I flatter myself is pretty perfect for me. I had planned to wear it out while my boyfriend was in town but somehow I wore my little black Gaultier dress instead. What do you guys think of my newest little creation?

These pants ripped around the knee area one day while at the Ohne Titel studio. I was so upset that I wanted to leave instantly for home. Once I got home, I put them away for days. I just didn't want to look at them for the time being. When I finally saw them again, I thought at once how great they would look as shorts and decided to cut them up. What do you think of the results? I personally am not sure if I like the frayed hem, I might latter fray-check and hem them properly for a more refined look.

I'd taken the day off because I just knew the lines were going to be ridiculous, plus I could justify it by useing the rest of the day to do freelance work. That morning I had a few errands to run, fabric shopping, and patterns to makes. On my way to Sil Thread, I decided to stop by the sample sale location a little early (it was sort of on the way). I wanted to approximate just how ridiculous the lines were actually going to be according to how many people were standing in it already. When I arrived there was no line, just a few employees hanging out in front. I asked, "Is this where you wait?", "you may go in" one of them replied, "we are not to busy at the moment." My heart gave a little jump as I walked inside the packed space. The crowd inside wasn't so overwhelmingly large, this morning was originally designated for friends and family only to shop. Supper excited I found myself shopping and changing in a large open room full of beautiful models and there stylish best friends. I felt so lucky be there, not having stood in line at all. Found this cape - jacket almost immediately upon walking in, I held on to it until I got a chance to see, touch & feel almost everything in the room. Even after trying on like twenty billion garments, it ended up being one of the only two items to came home with me.

Designed these asymmetrical black & white pants right before I left Atlanta. First time designing something with so many points to sew. Came to the realization that it's damn hard to sew consecutive acute angles. Another first would be the marriage of two so different fabrics. A cotton (the white) & satin faced organza (the black). It turned out great I think. A kind of mixing of two worlds, luxury together with the plain. This is also my first time wearing them out.

In the words of Jane Austin "New York is so diverting, there is so much to entertain". Yet our choice of entertainment was an easy one with the suggestion of the Jane Hotel Ballroom (in the west village) from my friend El (blue jacket) and the approval of so many online reviewer. We had a ball, this review from yelp.com was right on the money "The DJ played an amazing set of old and new goodies that have everyone eventually dancing for the rest of the night. Who is everyone? All under 25 year old thin models and their boyfriends (or gay boyfriends). We were the old locals and apparently it's kind of hard to get into The Jane unless you are 5'9'' and thin, or a local. Thankfully, we two completed both those descriptions. "

I've been feeling a little home sick lately. My boyfriend and I have only been apart for about a week before now. To say the least, I miss him. Two weeks ago I asked him to send me a package of a few things that I'd forgotten or left at home, a pair of flats, a dress and to "trow in some candy for good measure...(please)". He took this as an opportunity to be a complete romantic and oh so thoughtful. Yesterday I received my package. I was actually on the phone with him when I walked into the apartment to find it sitting on the bed. "oh my, what could this be?" I began nonchalantly. I opened it excitedly, there was so much candy that it was almost as if he had sent a large box of Skittles and Starburst. " Babe, this is a box of cavities", I giggled. Upon further examination I discovered my shoes and the dress I'd asked for along with a tube of toothpaste and an extra toothbrush (a way to offset his guilt for having sent me so much candy). This box was filled with many goodies and good laughs. I kept digging to find many more things two gift cards and....." baby, did you see the brown envelope" he questioned. Uhh...no I replied, then I found it sitting on top of everything, clearly the first thing that I was suppose to notice (but in my defense I was distracted by large bags of Starburst). I opened the envelope to find the most beautiful, handmade, hand drawn card I've ever even seen (!!!) Me being overly sentimental, I burst into tears without one more word to him. I mean... he is a graphic designer, this could have all been done on illustrator or something. The amount of time that I imagine he put into this only, cause my tears... initially. I can't reiterate all that it read, but it was beautiful, wholly satisfying. It's no wonder I was homesick, I left the most perfect guy back in Atlanta. I can't wait for him to come and visit so him what he's been missing...in NYC, that is (devilish smile).

Before I left Atlanta, my friend Steph took me to one of her favorite vintage shops, which happens to sell vintage inspired lingerie. I love all things sheer & seductive so I was quite delighted to learn of the places existence. I bought the cutest bras and breaches as well as this beautiful floor length tulle and lace dress. Stephanie, I must say got away with the best buy of the day: a full finger silver elephant ring that could make the most stylish fashionista drool. I was so envious of her good luck of finding it first.

But yesterday, I found a few underthings at Barneys that I believe would make all of my friends drool, including an elegant and sensual Stella McCartney lace bra that caresses my curves beautifully.

I designed these pants the week before I left Atlanta for NYC. Well, not really. I constructed these pants that very week but, they were designed and the fabric was cut about a year prior to my departure. This is my first time wearing them, which is in itself not an easy feat. You have to find the perfect undergarment where as not to show too much skin and appear vulgar. I decided to wear it with other transparent white pieces because I liked the effect of layered opacity. The only problem is that white attracts dirt like a magnet does metal. But I can't worry about that or I'll never leave the house. I just throw caution to the wind and drink Sprite instead of Cola.

Lately I've been dreaming of a white dress so glamorous that it hurts. Hopefully I can sketch, drape and construct it before fashion week so that I can wear it to the shows.

This lipstick was created for the first African-American model to walk down a YSL runway show. It works so beautifully with my skin complexion and feels so soft on my lips. The color is bold which means (in my opinion) you cannot wear it with blush or eyeshadow. Great for a change of mood or a night out on the town. Happy 4th of July.

love the color; hate the polish, are my sentiments for American Apparel's new "NEON" collection of nail lacquer. It's almost perfect. The color is so brilliant that it acts as an accessory, a statement piece no less. Why is it not pure perfection? The application is terrible, it took me more then an hour to get it to look kinda-right. The liquid is so thick that it globs on streaks with every brushstroke and you have to apply at least three layers to get that opaque neon hue on the bottle. If you like the color, I suggest that you take it to a nail salon and have them apply it for you as I will. It will surely save you much heartache.

I've never gravitated to Jeffery Campbell because everybody has a pair ...seriously. I am turned off to the brand (even if they do have cute shoes) for that one fact. I cringe at the idea of walking into a room and having someone else (male or female) wearing my same shoe. But I had to have them. I walked passed David Z's a few days ago, (we don't have one in Atlanta) the window looked interesting enough so I walked in; laid my eyes on these puppies - ten minutes latter I was their new owner. Can you say impulse buy? As soon as I stood up in them and felt how completely comfortable they were, the shopaholic little girl in me gave a little dance and demanded, SOooLLLD!

A typical day for me is draping, flat pattern, and constructing first samples - running a picking up to magazines and buyers (Vogue, Elle, Marie Clarie, barneys etc.) - drawing, checking QC (quality control) from the factories and so much more. Its exactly what I signed up for; not to mention the designers Alexa and Flora are very cool and personable people.

LIFE: next stop 8th and 14th

On my plane ride, looking out of the window I start to think about my summer in New York (completely romanticizing life in the city). I daydream of meeting famous editor, rummaging through sample sales, meeting young people with similar goals as my own, walking to work in unique and glamorous clothes, partying in Brooklyn with friends, exclusive rendezvous with fashion's elite, shopping on fifth avenue, riding in cabs and daily commutes on the subway. The latter of which had not turn out anything like I imagined.

The first day of riding the subway on my own, I am beside myself - supper excited to learn my way around. Yet, soon (after getting lost a few times) my excitement starts to wither and I sense myself getting a little frustrated with the NYC train system. After a while of making silly mistakes like going uptown when I'm suppose to be going downtown, leaving the station to switch tracks -only to find out that I can not be admitted with my unlimited card because it has been "just used"; I'm starting to feel drained. I'm tired, my feet hurt and I have no choice but to invest my already diminished energy into getting back to union square in time to meet a prospective roommate.

The romance starts to fad and I start to notice all of the other little inadequacies. There's the fact that I've seen as many large rats as small dogs today (I can hardly tell the difference anymore). The random burst of overwhelmingly offensive smells. The realization that every train is an overcrowded train (the term sardines in a can never conveyed so accurate an image). And worst of all, the uncleanliness of places is a bit scary. I've never run out of hand sanitizer so quickly.

On a positive note, I did manage to learn the system well enough not to make as silly a mistake as going uptown when my true intentions were downtown. I carry hand-wipes in my bag so the dirtiness can be put to the back of my mind easily enough. I like seeing the vast variety of personal style, therefore people watching has contributed to making the ride to work a little bit more enjoyable. And the amount of comments I receive on my daily attire doesn't hurt it either.

Packing right now. As you know I'll be in NYC interning for the summer (which could possible become a permanent move depending on how I feel at the end of the summer). Had to leave the house because there were so many things on my list that i hadn't bought yet. Ended up at LENOX mall where I found these bad-boys, I fell in love with the chunky heel and the fact that they totally embody my aesthetic - delicate and dangerous, bold but feminine.

DIY: Tibor Kalman inspired watch

My boyfriend showed me these watches that Tibor Kalman designed back in the 80s. I instantly fell in love with them & of course, wanted to design my own watchface. Who is Tibor Kalman? Only one of the most influential American graphic designers of his time according to my bf. In 1979 Kalman and two of his friends started the design firm M&Co, which these watches are branded with. Kalman also worked as creative director of Interview magazine in the early 1990s.

My design uses isotype symbols and is completely functional. Some of the symbols are isotype inspired, I designed two of them myself; the sewing machine and the sleeper were both created using illustrator. My purpose was to design a watch that lets me know what I usually do at certain times during the day. Much like a schedule - sleep, eat: lunch & dinner, sew, watch TV, work on the computer etc. Seven is the only number on the watch because, one: it is my lucky number and two: I don't seem to have things scheduled for seven o'clock.

This is an impulsive post. I am not sure why but I felt that I just had to show you guys these pants today. Like the last garment design that I posted, they are not a part of any upcoming collection just part of my on-going process. And of course when I design clothes that are not part of any collection, I make them in my size so I am supper excited to wear them. They are 100% silk crepe and plain organza for the sheer midriff.

DIY: mustard and ketchup romper

Believe it or not, I found this Ike Behar man's shirt at Goodwill (a major thrift store chain) and was drawn to it because of the muted yet loud mustard color. My boyfriend hated it because of it's color so that made me love it more. I took it home with a vision in mind. The sleeves were cut off and hemmed, I shortened the shirt and used a ketchup colored silk jersey as the fabric for the shorts. P.S those shoes are the easiest things in the world to walk in because I am just elevated, there is no major arch to the heel.

DESIGN: leather envelope clutch

What you will need: about two square feet of leather, a large envelope (or one that is your preferred perfect sized clutch) and leather bonding Fabric-Tac.

What to do: use the envelop as your pattern piece and trace the outline onto the back side of your leather. Cut out the pattern piece and glue the edges together in order to form your envelop. Hand stitch a snap onto the center top of the bottom fold. If you wish you may add a button or some ornamental fixture (like I did) to hide the seems of the snap. There you have it, a very clean minimalistic multipurpose clutch that you can wear casually or to any major event.

The leather paper bag (third image from the top) just jumped out at me when I saw it. I don't know who designed it but whoever it was must be a very innovative person. I wanted to copy it instantly but with Joe's help I resisted and created a leather envelope clutch using the same concept. I love that its is so unstructured and that I can fit standard American letter paper-sized objects into it perfectly. Although I do love my own design, you have to forgive me because if I don't find out who designed that leather paper bag soon I might have to make my own.

DIY: a little overdone

I know that these ripped tees have had their run on the top of the trendy charts lately. And although I hate to admit that I like trends or even follow them, I do, and I have no choice, they are everywhere. I'm starting to realize that you can't dislike something just because the masses like it - especially if it is such a cool textured thing as this. Therefore I have embraced this particular trend (late and all). Doing the "ripping" myself made me love the idea and like the aesthetic of it even more. I was choosing what strings to pull and which ones not to change making this design original to myself. In the end I quite liked the results and would even consider doing it to another garment (maybe a pair of knit pants); ooohhhh, that sounds good! Ok, whenever I get another free second away from designing to commit to a D.I.Y. I think that knit tattered pants may be in the equation.

This is the newest garment that I have designed for myself - and not for a collection. Its a 100% cotton kimono knit top that is very soft and supper comfortable. It is feminine, minimalistic and sensual and I love wearing it.

Gosh, it has been so long since I last post. Usually I am unapologetic about late post because I consider myself a frequent updater, so when I drag a little (its not so bad). The past two weeks I've been extremely busy with projects and work, but i am back on the wagon now. The S/S 12 collection is coming along very nicely and I am tying up some lose ends. Spring is here finally and that means I'm taking a short break from work. I'm very excited about this because I plan to indulge in life's little indulgences - I don't know if black people can tan but I plan to be in the sun long enough to find out. Yesterday K.J (video), Ansley (model) and I collaborated on a video with a few dresses from the S/S 11 collection. We walked from the Rhodes Hall (the castle on peachtree st) to Piedmont park. I am so excited about the final results and can't wait to share it with you. It should be up in about a week - you should look forward to it :)

COLLECTION: overdue lookbook

I should have posted this weeks ago but I didn't. The S/S 11 look-book is complete and has been mailed out to all the major and influential publications that Joe and I can think of. I'll take a photo of the complete packaging soon so that you guys can see how wonderfully talented Joe truly is.
